The ASCIMAT Project recently completed their first summer school session which took place in Milano, Italy from September 12-13, 2016. The University of Milano-Biccoca hosted an international audience of students and researchers with a diverse range of scientific presentations from its lecturers. The summer school aimed at introducing PhD students and young researchers to the mechanism of scintillation, to material preparation techniques and to the development of novel material systems.The summer school program covered the latest scientific and technical progresses on scintillation materials including the following topics (presentations available for download):

The event was also the ocasion to widen the scope of advanced scintillating materials and emphasis other areas where their research may be applicable, which specifically included a guest from a prominent Czech industrial actor, Crytur. Dr. Karel Blazek gave a stimulating presentation on the company’s ongoing work and accomplishments in the domain.
In addition the participants were given training on interesting EU platforms and funding schemes where they could demonstrate their scientific capabilities and the importance of intercultural communicative practices in research, as well as training for promotion and dissemination. The students from the faculty (Master and PhD-level) were also given the opportunity to showcase their research work by presenting their findings through a poster session coupled to mini-orals (short 5-minutes presentations introducing the results of the poster).
